Trouble connecting wireless internet with laptop?

I have been having trouble connecting to other networks in other homes. My wireless internet for my laptop(dell inspiron 700m) works in my home but when i bring it to my friends house i am not able to connect to the internet. The message, "limited or no connectivity" pops up. I even tried putting all the ip adress and so forth but the internet didnt work. Any suggestions of how to fix this problem?? thanks.

You go to the properties on your connection, then you set the connection for ip6 and ip4 to automatically detect for both.
