Connecting to a wireless network question?

I just set up a router in my apartment and I have two laptops (one i bought and one issued by my school). One laptop gets wireless easily, but the other one goes into the "acquiring network address" stage, then before it connects, it disables and goes back to "acquiring network address". So it never actually connects. But I can get it to work through a hard wire (LAN). What could cause this, or how can I fix it?

Restart your pc or wait awhile until it connects, or simply unplug your modem and router, wait for 5 mins, then plug the modem in first then the router.

  1. just use the cable, safer and faster

  2. Are you entering the password for the wireless correctly? Usually it just goes into the acquiring network address message when the password is incorrect.

  4. It may have an IP address entered that’s in the wrong address range (it should be acquiring an IP address automatically).

This is assuming that you haven’t set a password on the router and you don’t have MAC-address filtering enabled.
