Can I make my printer wireless by connecting it to a wireless router?
I have an HP Color LaserJet 3800 that has an RJ45 ethernet port. I have my wireless router right next to it. Can I set it up so I am able to print from my laptop wirelessly? If so, can anyone assist me with a few steps? Thank you so much in advance!
Hi There,
Since your printer has an ethernet port it is designed to be used as a network printer and the step by step directions should be included in the printer setup information.
I just downloaded the printer manual and the info you will need is on pages 45 and 46 (in section 3).
In your laptop click on "Conttrol Panel" the select "Printers and other hardware"
click on "Printers" then select "Add Printer" you will then need to enter the IP address information and probably when asked go ahead and add the driver from the printer setup disk.
Don’t give up. With some patience you should be able to get it working.
don’t forget to set the new printer as the default.
Hope this helps,
Al
Yes, you can print it wirelessly. You need to set up a print server.

Basically you need to setup a static/fixed IP on the printer in the settings via the menu on the printer, If for example your network is using the 192.168.0.XXX settings then you can assign it say 192.168.0.100 and then connect to the printer using that IP address.
As long as it is connected to the router and has a fixed IP then you should be able to access the printer with that IP. Once setup, On a computer goto add printer and select a network printer and enter the IP address you have given the printer.

umm yep that should work. I have a similar setup except my printers don’t have RJ45 connectors. They are connected to computers that are connected to the router over ethernet, but my laptop can still print wirelessly.
