i have a problem connecting my camcorder to my computer?

when i connect my ieee (firewire) cable to my computer and my camcorder, nothing happens. i opened up windows movie maker and clicked on import/ from digital video camera and says that no camcorder can be found.by the way, my camcorder is a panasonic PV-GS39 and uses a minidv cassete. please help!

you’re right…PV-GS39 is a miniDV vcam w/c should be firewire- connected to a pc to capture (copy) video from tape using a video editing app like wmm.

However, you chose wmm ‘IMPORT’ which applies only to files (video/ music/ voice) , whereas, on tape is a video stream when on playback.

Try instead to click on CAPTURE from video device to capture video stream while the vcam is on playback. wmm shud contol the vcam operations.

when you are on the player on the camcorder, go into the menu, and search through it to find a option to turn the Firewire link on in the camcorder.

  2. You may need to update your drivers!! Try the Panasonic support site for your camera model for the drivers and peruse the FAQ’s while your there.
