problems connecting my macbook to my vizio tv via s video?

I’m trying to connect my macbook to my tv. I believe I have all the correct hardware – mini dvi to s video adapter, and an s video cable – but when I connect everything, nothin is displayed on my tv. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I believe you have to set up the display under the Displays panel in System Preferences while the TV is connected.
