Having problems connecting to my netgear router?

I have a netgear router, I try to connect and it says that it is connected sometimes but when I click on mozzila or internet explorer it doesn’t work.
Sometimes it also says it’s connected but local only.
How do I get my computer to actually connect to the internet?

It sounds like you’re able to connect to your router fine. However since your internet isn’t working, Maybe your dsl/cable modem isn’t connecting. I don’t know about cable modems so I will cover DSL Modems, but you should have at least a solid Power light, DSL light and internet light. If the DSLlight is blinking then call your phone company who’s feeding you the DSL because the modem is not training. If your Internet light is not on then either you have your modem in bridge mode or your DSL Modem isn’t connecting to your ISP. If your DSL Modem is in bridge mode then check the status of your ISP connection through your router If your DSL/Router say you’re connected to the internet, then check to make sure your computer has received an IP Address by click the "Start" menu (Since you said your network connection says " connected but local only" I’m assuming you have Windows Vista or 7?) so in the search programs and files box type "cmd" and press enter to bring up your command window. Type "ipconfig /all" and press enter and under the wireless connection group see if you have an ip address (something like 192.168.1.?) and make sure the default gateway is the IP Address of your router. If there is no ip address listed then you aren’t getting assigned one from your router and need to turn DHCP on in your router configuration, look in the manual of your router or find the manual online if you don’t have it and it should tell you how to enable it.
