How much should I spend on cables connecting speakers to my home theatre?
I pick up my speakers this weekend – I am guessing the sales people are going to hit me with a "you have to have THESE cables to make them sound good. What should I spend?
Cableguy is right…just get speaker cable at a home store. Don’t listen to salespeople or "audiophile" weenies on Yahoo Answers.
you just need decent 16 gauge wire to hook up the speakers you can get it at you local hardware Home Depot or loews You don t have to buy them at the electronics store

The store makes 50% profit on cables so they do pressure you to buy expensive copper.
A good rule is to budget 10% of the cost of the things being hooked up for the connection wires. Never go above this value.
I strongly recommend decent oxygen free 12 ga speaker wire. Buy a spool from http://www.partsexpress.com or even the "Carol" brand sold from spools at Home Depot. This should be about $0.50/ft or less.

The one that make the most difference to you. All of my cables in any of my systems must be auditioned. I listen and watch carefully. I do start with my 10% rule as a base line though. If you are just looking for decent performance and not a absolute audiophile or videophile where only the best will do then do the above.

The two primary factors you need to consider when shopping for speaker cables is impedence (in ohms) and cable length. See link for good info on speaker cables.

You have a couple of options here. Either buy premade speaker cables or do it yourself. I have yet to see a premade cable at a reasonable price. And since every system is different, you don’t have many options when it comes to length, so there’s always extra cable.
If you want to save hundreds and do it yourself just buy a spool of the appropriate gauge and cut the cable to length, attaching any connectors yourself should you wish to use them. You could also have bluejeanscable.com custom build your cables and connectors. They have a pretty good deal.

Like cableguy said, 16 ga wire from a home improvement center will work fine.
Pay extra for "oxygen free" copper is nonsense.
Anyone who says they can tell the difference is kidding themselves. Its all hype to sell people something they dont need.
