Connecting 2 optical cables to home theatre?

Just wondering if possible how to get my PS3 optical cable and Sky HD optical cable to both be in use without having to physicaly remove and replace as my home theatre kit has only 1 input, i know its physicaly impossible to use 2 optical cables for 1 input but what alternatives do i have any suggestions ?

You can use this inexpensive piece as a splitter/combiner. It will be a lot easier than moving plugs around and it’s 6 bucks!

Dont use a splitter. It wont work.

Look at the optical output on your devices even when they are just powered on. They both provide light. If you use this "splitter" – the light from both will combine and your receiver wont be able to work from the device you want.

You need a optical switch. The one from Monoprice is less than $7 and I have seen this same item at large electronic stores and perhaps at Radio Shack.

  3. i use a splitter and it works fine. i never have to get out of my chair to use it. a switch would be so much harder.

  4. A splitter should work you just won’t be able to use both devices at the same time.
