connecting using dsl?

i have subscribed to dsl but i’m having a problem .i don’t want to be always connected to the internet.when the computer is turned on , the dsl connection starts automatically.and if i disable the network, the connection is gone but i can’t enable it until i restart the computer.what can i do to connect and disconnect whenever i want.

Here is what i did. I bought a pci slot network adapter card that way when i turn off my computer the slot powers down and im not connected and when i turn on the computer it connects automatically without me doing a thing.

I didnt like the idea of going thru the motherboard and having it always connected either and this is what i did so i wouldnt be.

  2. I know this sounds kinda dumb, but one thing you can do is push the button. Most DSL modems have a button on the top that disables the connection. It’s every bit as effective as unplugging the cable, which would also work.

But if the modem were handy you probably would just unplug the cable, so that may not be the best answer. If you really need to do it from the computer, then it depends on what operating system you have. In a Windows system you can set up an alternate configuration under the Advanced Options of the Properties of your network connection. put in a bogus IP address (like 10.10.10.10) and a bogus default gateway (10.10.10.1) with the matching subnet mask (255.0.0.0), and tell it to use that configuration with the little check box. That will effectively disable your connection.
