Can you have 2 DSL modems connected to the same phone line?

I have a second older modem that I never returned when I cancelled my service. Now, I’m trying to use it at my brother’s house who was dsl service and another modem. I’m having trouble connecting with either modem. Once I’m connected, switching back and forth between the two can be done but takes a long time. Seems like maybe the two modems are fighting for control of the line.

You diagnosed the problem correctly – you’re getting one IP address and they’re both trying to grab it. Also, each one is killing signal strength for the other one. It just won’t work. If you want to connect 2 (or more) computers to the same DSL line, connect a router to the modem and the computers to the router.

  1. No, you can’t.

They both use the same voltages, only one would ever work at any given time.

YES and there is only one way you can get it. You have to have someone you know really good that works for a phone company. You get them to wire one room in the house to another phone line so you will be paying two phone bills. So one room will have a different number and the other rooms will have the real house number. You make sure the room that has another number (not ur real one) as ports connected up into the room that your dsl will be in. So you sign up for Verizon for your home telephone and Bell South for that one room. And thats how u do it.
