Can i use my Linksys Access Point to make a wireless connection without connecting it to a router?
No. You will need to connect the AP to a Switch or Router in order to have it work properly.
An AP can extend the network’s capabilities to include wireless, but the AP doesnt have the "brain" to route data packets correctly. In essence, with an AP you are only extending virtual wires to an existing Router or Switch.
You are better off getting a WIRELESS ROUTER (such as the W54g) which can be used as a router, an AP or a Bridge device, however you configure it.
Best of luck to you!
